This group has a strong focus on quantifying sensory properties of foods and beverages, studying consumer responses to food systems and new technologies, and conducting future-focused research related to people, products, and the planet.This science leadership role is vital to continue lifting the capability and impact that the group brings to our research and the performance of all our teams. The position is expected to require 0.6 FTE for science group leadership and 0.4 FTE for personal scientific research contributions.What you will be doing | Ngā whāinga matua
Reporting to the General Manager - You will be leading science teams working in the field of human sensory science, consumer intelligence and chemosensory responses. This will require you to:
Take overall responsibility for the science leadership and achievement of science goals within the Consumer & Product Insights group.
  • Oversee the ongoing creation and maintenance of a dynamic portfolio of funded research programmes and projects in the group.
  • Ensure people and capital resources are allocated and managed effectively so that the quality and output targets specified in the Science Group Plan are met.
  • Develop a collaborative, collegial team dynamic to drive and deliver excellent science, including supporting and encouraging personal development and growth of staff in the group.
  • Foster a high-performance science culture with a strong focus on delivering outputs, outcomes and impacts in a field related to human sensory and psychological responses to food products and technologies.

To be successful in this role, you will be able to bring to the table:
  • A postgraduate qualification (ideally a PhD in Science) and high achievement in a relevant science area.
  • A track record of positive, inclusive science leadership.
  • Demonstrated success in scientific research, technology transfer, and the application of complex specialist expertise.
  • Proven capability to develop and lead a programme of research that makes a significant contribution to stakeholders and the ability to attract funds for that purpose.
  • The ability to demonstrate and apply comprehensive knowledge over a broad range of scientific areas and a track record as a highly skilled, experienced, and productive scientist over a significant period of time.
