We are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its principles by ensuring our partnership with Māori are at the forefront of all our conversations.Mō te tūnga | About the roleThe Microbiology Unit at Canterbury Health Laboratories, Te Whatu Ora, Waitaha currently employs 4 Consultants and 2 Registrars (in training positions) and provides an extensive and state of the art service to the local hospitals and community. The department has a strong academic link with the University of Otago.As a tertiary hospital laboratory, a substantial range of routine laboratory tests are performed as well as an expanding set of specialised tests. The Microbiology service provides specialist information and testing of microbial pathogens involved in a patient's infectious disease process and assists with managing outbreaks of communicable diseases. The department has close links with several medical specialties, in particular Infectious Diseases, Sexual Health and Infection Prevention & Control.Specialist areas in microbiology include bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, virology, serology, and infection control. Molecular methods form a large part of the diagnostic strategy CHL employs. These integrated services are provided by experienced and highly qualified staff, with specialist medical interpretation of results.What we are looking for:We are seeking a Consultant Microbiologist to join our dynamic team on a Fixed Term 3-6 months to cover a sabbatical. We are flexible and could potentially work around your needs.As a Consultant Microbiologist, you will play a key role in providing expert advice and guidance on matters related to microbiology within our healthcare facility. You will be responsible for diagnosing and treating infectious diseases, overseeing laboratory procedures, conducting research, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the highest standards of patient care.About Christchurch | Living in ŌtautahiŌtautahi, Christchurch is a great place to live and bring up a family.
