Registrars - Medical (commencing July 2024)
Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora
- Invercargill
- Permanent
- Full-time
- Join us as we change the future of healthcare in Southern NZ
- Opportunity to nurture any subspecialty interests
- Close to some of New Zealand most famous national parks and ski fields
- Fully staffed with trained General Physicians, many of whom are also qualified in various subspecialties.
- Medical patients are admitted to General Medicine, unlike larger hospitals where some patients are siphoned off to specialty inpatient teams. This ensures excellent breadth and depth of exposure to a wide range of medical conditions.
- We maintain the care for acutely unwell patients including those requiring ICU admission, which means that advanced trainees can satisfy the high acuity requirement of their training by doing General Medicine at Southland, rather than having to do a separate high acuity run.
- Opportunity for exposure to ambulatory work within the onsite subspecialties provided by the dual trained General Physicians, which include Cardiology, Respiratory, Endocrinology, Nephrology and Gastroenterology.
- All other medical subspecialties are covered by visiting consultants from Dunedin Hospital. There is ample time and opportunity to nurture any subspecialty interests amongst trainees alongside their General Medicine experience.
- Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You can check your eligibility for registration by visiting the Council's website at
- Whilst we are interested in receiving applications from those with Medical Registrar experience, RMO's with a minimum of one years' post qualification experience and good exposure to general medical runs can apply
