We're seeking local volunteers to be trained to First Responder Level that will capable of responding at a moment's notice.Volunteering as a First Responder is a big commitment that provides huge rewards. By working as a first responder your role will support your community, with the focus always on providing quality care to patients.Our Ambulance volunteers provide care and support to our patients through their journey which may start at a 111 call and end either being referred to another health care provider, treated on scene, or transported to a medical facility.You will have a desire to help people in a compassionate and professional way, embracing the diversity our communities offer, be committed to continuous learning and training, and display St John's core values. Without question, you will be trustworthy and reliable, able to display excellent communication skills (written and oral), have great time management and be computer literate.What do you need to be a volunteer?A full and clean NZ driver's licence for at least 12 months or have completed an approved NZTA advanced driving course (if full licence held for less than 12 months)18 years of age or overNew Zealand citizenship or permanent resident statusClean Police recordPass the St John assessment requirements (physical, interview, literacy/numeracy test)Pass pre-appointment health questionnaireWhat benefits do you get as a St John volunteer?NZQA recognised training from the leading provider of pre-hospital emergency care in the countryBecome a First Responder and able to apply to progress toward gaining the National Diploma in AmbulanceOpportunity to work in a strong team environment alongside other skilled professionals within your communityGain leadership and communication skills through dealing with a broad range of people in diverse situationsMembership of one of New Zealand's most trusted brands. This includes:A two day Operations Induction course.A two day Operations Risk Management course which is designed to help you stay safe in the field.A two day Ambulance Driving course (where driving is part of your role) which is supported by online learning and the completion of a driving logbook.A four day First Responder course which is designed to enable you to assess patients and manage immediately life threatening emergencies in the community.
