Te kōwhiringa | The OpportunityThe purpose for this position is to provide senior level pavement engineering management, oversight and thought leadership including,

providing specialist pavement technical support particularly on high-risk, high opportunity projects.
design management to deliver cost effective, innovative solutions.
ongoing development of the pavement technical cohort
providing input to the strategic direction for the Pavements team and its interface with the wider business including Road Science.
contribute to the continued improvement of our Pavement engineering technical community including process, best practice and new products.
ongoing support to our operations teams through understanding of the technical interface with construction and commercial outcomes
representation on industry working groups and promotion and fostering of relationships with Tertiary education providers.

The Principal Engineer - Pavements shall be Chartered with Engineers NZ or body recognised by Engineering NZ. The position sits within the Operations and Strategy department of the Downer Transport and Infrastructure Business. The Principal Engineer - Pavements is a thought leadership role and as such will explore innovation and market leadership opportunities, by reinforcing partnerships with our customers, communities and employees.Nga pūkenga matua | Important SkillsAs someone who is keen to roll up their sleeves to work "hands on" in a collaborative way with the wider Downer operation; you will be happy to involve construction teams right from the conceptualisation of a new design.You will also have:

Washington Accord tertiary qualification in Engineering
Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng)
Member or Fellow of Engineers New Zealand (MEngNZ or FEngNZ)
+10 years' experience in pavement and asphalt technologies, design and quality assurance
Recognised specialist experience in Pavement Engineering
Proven willingness and capability to learn and to foster development of other Downer technical staff
Strong problem solving skills
Good written and oral communication skills
A strong track record that clearly demonstrates leadership behaviours that empower others to make decisions, deliver and succeed.
A positive attitude and commitment to providing a high quality of service

Skilled in relevant technical software and systems as well as word processing, spread-sheeting and other general computer software Advantageous to have:

Experience with RAMM, AutoCAD and pavement mechanistic analysis tools such as CIRCLY and Austpads
